The Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI) has developed two sets of standards which form the Business Information NVQ at Level 3 and the Business Advice NVQ at Level 4.
AIM OF THE QUALIFICATIONS
The aim of these NVQs is to assess candidates’ ability to apply the knowledge and skills required in the performance of a wide range of activities normally required of those working in business support services. The flexibility of both NVQs allows candidates to demonstrate competence in a variety of environments, with evidence to support competence in a variety of environments, with evidence to support competence coming from activities of work (paid or unpaid), arranged assessments where appropriate, training programmes and prior achievements.
Candidates who wish to undertake Business Advice Level 4 will find it useful to have prior experience in business management.
WHO IS THIS QUALIFICATION FOR?
The standards upon which the qualifications are based directly relate to the qualitative skills and knowledge needed by people who are actively involved with clients in Business Links, Welsh Assembly Government, Local Enterprise Agencies/Trusts, Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Units, Training Access Points, Rural Development Commission, Welsh Business Contracts, Prince’s Youth Business Trust, Business Shops, etc.
UNIT TITLES
Business Information NVQ has nine units of competence and Business Advice has seven units of competence, although for both qualifications only four mandatory units are required to be awarded the full qualification.
BUSINESS INFORMATION LEVEL 3
Mandatory Units

BUSINESS ADVICE LEVEL 4

- Develop your ability to provide business advice
Additional Units
- Design interventions which contribute to improved client performance
- Implement interventions which contribute to improved client performance
