Leadership and Management Courses

The Leadership and Management courses are a series of short, enlightening and focused training courses dedicated to helping you and your managers sharpen their leadership skills. They offer three levels of management development to meet the needs of your business. The course programme is delivered across Wales through a network of Welsh Assembly Government quality assured providers, and covers the development needs of team leaders, line managers, middle managers and senior managers. The Leadership and Management courses are based on the National Occupational Standards for Management.

WHAT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE?

The Welsh Assembly Government will subsidise up to 70% of the cost of the courses for businesses with less than 250 employees and up to 50% for larger organisations. Considering the benefits they can bring to the way you run your business they represent excellent value for money and a worthwhile investment in time.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

courses can be accessed by any manager, supervisor or team leader regardless of employer size or sector, but the employer must be based in South East Wales.

COURSES

ASSERTIVENESS SKILLS

A course designed to address the issues surrounding non-assertive behaviour and to give participants an understanding of assertiveness together with tools and strategies to make real changes in their day to day lives.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR MANAGERS (suitable for middle managers)

The course takes an in depth look at the various ways we relate to ourselves and to others in the world. It examines the structure of verbal and non-verbal behaviour and the effect that these exert in both our businesses and personal relationships.

DEVELOPING SUPERVISORS

A course comprising 3 half-day courses that will equip supervisors with the ability to manage absence and conduct return to work interviews, carry out disciplinary and general procedures, and improve communications with their teams. Participants will learn how to support the recruitment process including conducting interviews, appraisals, etc. The course will provide useful templates for participants to take back to their workplaces.

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP (2 DAY) (suitable for senior managers)

This course is designed for leaders who wish to explore various styles of leadership and management. During the two days participants will reflect upon the skills and attitudes required to harness employee potential and examine team roles. They will be provided with a range of tools and techniques to improve both personal and team performance..

EFFECTIVE SUPERVISIONS

This course is recommended for anyone who is required to carry out supervisions with their staff. It is designed to develop the skills of the supervisor and looks at coaching and mentoring within the context of supervision in order to maximise people’s effectiveness and progression.

MANAGING EFFECTIVE MEETINGS

By the end of this course delegates will have an understanding of how to prepare for, and lead, effective meetings. They will learn the role and skills involved in acting as an effective chairperson, how to use agendas constructively and how to ensure successful outcomes are achieved from meetings.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT (2 DAY) (suitable for middle managers)

This course is designed for those who have responsibility for leading or participating in projects. It will equip delegates with the skills essential for successful long and short–term project management.
RISK MANAGEMENT (suitable for senior managers)

This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to help your business effectively manage risk. Delegates will learn how to anticipate problems which lie ahead, identify the precise risk factors and what strategy is appropriate in order to rectify the situation.
TIME MANAGEMENT (suitable for managers)

This course examines time and the effective use of this precious commodity which once lost can never be regained. Getting more done, in less time, with less stress in today’s demanding environment is the key to both personal and team performance.

TRAIN THE TRAINER (suitable for middle managers)

Our practical, interactive Train the Trainer course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to prepare, design and deliver effective training programmes. Delegates will gain an understanding of how to tailor their approach in order to be effective in coping with a range of adult learning styles and how to communicate key points effectively.
