BACKGROUND
Studies on international competitiveness show that one of the
main factors of success is a well trained workforce. The UK has
done well in many respects, but needs to address a growing problem
at the intermediate level where there is a need for young people
to broaden basic skills and gain wider experience in their particular
field.
In response to this research the Government has developed the
Modern Apprenticeship scheme which provides financial assistance
and specialist advice to companies who wish to develop staff.
The employer is required to enter into a partnership with a training
supplier such as Qualtech and together they prepare an Apprenticeship
Training Plan for each apprentice. This must include an appropriate
National Vocational Qualification (up to Level 4), Key Skills
qualifications and an exploration of their particular sector in
the form of a company project. Other job related training identified
by the employer can also be added to the plan which must be completed
within a three year period.
FUNDING
These programmes are 100% funded which covers the mandatory aspects (NVQ,
Key Skills and company project) and further assistance may also
be available for any additional training identified by the employer.
SUPPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Qualtech oversees progress towards the NVQ and Key Skills via
monthly advisory appointments with each apprentice. We also offer
regular workshops at our training suite in Treforest which includes
topics such as Information Technology, Customer Service and Presentation
Skills.
